Tutoring in Smalltalk

The Needs

There are times when standard classroom training does not furnish the depth of knowledge your company demands.  Because Knowledge Systems Corporation  has taught hundreds of Smalltalkers, we realize that needs often point in a different direction than courses can supply.

Some of your needs might be:

  • Refreshing programmers who have not used Smalltalk for some time, but have already attended all of the courses

  • Assisting your I/S professionals (who may or may not be programmers) with a deeper understanding of Smalltalk usage and functionality

  • Ramping up experienced developers new to Smalltalk who have taken the standard courses, but are joining an established, fast-moving team

The Answer

Tutoring in Smalltalk  is a flexible vehicle for mentoring one to three people in Smalltalk.  Based on student needs and objectives, the tutor directs and monitors student progress in the selected topics - the tutors experience shortens the learning curve.  Students practice their techniques by developing Smalltalk applications.  With sufficient Tutor Sessions, students develop the Smalltalk skills they need.

The Advantage

At a price competitive with classroom education, tutoring provides much more:

  • Mentoring aimed at specific skills, techniques, and experience

  • Knowledge transfer from the tutor, a senior developer with real-life application development experience in Smalltalk

  • Flexibility in the number of Tutor Sessions needed to truly train your people

  • Flexibility in scheduling Tutor Sessions

The Tutor Session

The Tutor Session consists of three days to five days of intensive hands-on training led by an experienced Smalltalk professional with extensive application experience and mentoring skill.  Between Tutor Sessions, students are asked to complete specific assignments to reinforce what they have learned.  The number of Tutor Sessions needed depends on many factors, including student level, topics selected, and student and company objectives.

Prices

The prices below cover all tutoring and materials for a single Tutor Session.

  • $ 1000 for one student for each tutor day.  Minimum session is 3 days.

  • $ 1200 for two students for each tutor day.  Minimum session is 3 days.

  • $ 1600 for three students for each tutor day.  Minimum session is 3 days.

Tutoring in Smalltalk  is most effective with one or two participants.

Reasonable travel costs are also billed to the customer, if the session is held at the customer site.

Location

Tutoring can take place at either the customers location or KSC 's location in Raleigh, North Carolina.  Please contact us for facility and system requirements for customer-site tutoring.

Prerequisites

A basic understanding of fundamental object-oriented concepts is recommended.  KSC ' s Object-Oriented Analysis & Design Workshop  is a cost-effective way to provide this introductory object-oriented training.
