Tutoring for Object-Oriented Development

The Needs

There are times when standard classroom training does not furnish the depth of knowledge your company demands. Because Knowledge Systems Corporation  has taught hundreds of students in Object-Oriented technologies , Smalltalk  and Java , we realize that needs often point in a different direction than courses can supply.

Some of your needs might be:

  • Growing your object-oriented programmers into analysis, design, and/or testing roles

  • Incorporating patterns, frameworks, and reuse into the experience of  your object-oriented developers

  • Assisting your I/S professionals (who may or may not be programmers) with the transition to object-oriented thinking

  • Determining appropriate processes, modeling techniques and CASE tools for your development organization

The Answer

Tutoring in Object-Oriented Development is a flexible vehicle for mentoring one to three people in object-oriented technology . Based on student needs and objectives, the tutor directs and monitors student progress in the selected topics - the tutor's experience shortens the learning curve.  Students practice their techniques on object-oriented applications.  With sufficient Tutor Sessions, students develop the object-oriented skills they need.

The Advantage

At a price competitive with classroom education, tutoring provides much more:

  • Mentoring aimed at specific skills, techniques, and experience

  • Knowledge transfer from the tutor, a senior developer with real-life object-oriented application development experience

  • Flexibility in the number of Tutor Sessions needed to truly train your people

  • Flexibility in scheduling Tutor Sessions

The Tutor Session

The Tutor Session consists of three days of intensive hands-on training led by an experienced object-oriented professional with extensive application experience and mentoring skill.  Between Tutor Session, students are asked to complete specific assignments to reinforce what they have learned.  The number of Tutor Sessions needed depends on many factors, including student level, topics selected, and student and company objectives.

Price

The prices below cover all tutoring and materials for a single Tutor Session.

  • $ 1200 for one student per day (minimum 3 days)

  • $ 1300 for two students per day (minimum 3 days)

  • $ 1400 for three students per day (minimum 3 days)

Tutoring in Object-Oriented Development  is most effective with two or three participants.

Reasonable travel costs are also billed to the customer.

Location

Tutoring can take place at either the customer's location or KSC 's location in Raleigh, North Carolina.  Please contact us for facility and system requirements for customer-site tutoring.

Prerequisites

KSC 's Object-Oriented Analysis & Design Workshop  course is recommended, but not required, as a cost-effective way to provide introductory object-oriented training.  For certain topics, Object-Oriented programming experience is useful.

Potential Topics

  • Object-oriented concepts and mindset

  • Analysis techniques, including use cases

  • Design techniques, including CRC cards and UML diagrams

  • Testing techniques for all phases of the development process

  • Choosing a methodology/process, and tailoring it to your organization
